Leadership and Collaboration

The teacher will develop their leadership potential by looking for opportunities to lead within their school and classroom, as part of the tenth standard of InTASC. Leadership roles are vital for teachers so that they can improve the profession of teaching while also allowing the teacher to demonstrate their passion for their career.  Teachers must align themselves with the entire faculty and staff of a school by attending faculty meetings.  Grade-level meetings are a great avenue that the teacher can participate with and allow for leadership opportunities within the curriculum. When teachers show school spirit, they involve students and staff to know that you support them and encourage a team atmosphere.

All-faculty Meetings

Attending and collaborating during an all-faculty meeting is one way that a teacher can show support and leadership within their building.  All-faculty encounters can lead to teamwork across grade-levels and help to improve the community as teachers can bind together for the benefit of the learner.  There is the added benefit of training for new curriculum and sharing of essential news that happens during these meetings.

Collaboration for Grade-level

Collaborating with the grade-level teachers, paraprofessionals, special education teachers, and other resource teachers is pivotal for the student’s benefit as it is this group of professionals that work to create a safe learning space for the student. When teachers are aligning lesson plans and accommodations for those students that require additional support, they are providing a whole community within that grade-level. This collaboration works as a family to provide lesson packets for students to complete at home.  As the students work on the same vocabulary words and achieve the same assignments, it gives an overall sense of unity for the grade-level.

Spirit Days

Teachers that show their school spirit allow their fun side to teach and encourage the students to want to be a part of the school.  Spirit days enable teachers and students to show their creativity.  Celebrating Read Across America, along with Dr. Seuss’ Birthday, provides lots of reading and fun for the staff and students.  These fun days give some smiles for the students and staff while creating a more friendly and relaxed environment within the classroom.
